Why is website accessibility important?

First and foremost because it is a legal requirement for organisation's website and intranets to comply with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA). But perhaps more importantly, it makes good business sense to ensure that customers have access to goods and services online. It is estimated that 1 in 4 Irish people have problems with reading and writing on a basic level and at least 8% of the Irish population have some form of dyslexia.

The speakers at the event will give first hand accounts of their experiences in ensuring websites and Intranets are fully accessible. Presenters include Nigel Cunningham from Texthelp Systems, creators of the market leading Browsealoud text-to-speech programme, as well as experts in e-learning and web accessibility in Strata3, An Post, ilikecake, Reach and CFIT.

An exploration into Website Accessibility will be covered by all the guest speakers:

• Brendan Spillane, ilikecake
• Michael Clyne, Reach
• Josh O’Connor, CFIT
• Nigel Cunningham, Texthelp
• Aisling McMahon, Strata3
• Barney Whelan, An Post

There will also be an opportunity to put questions forward to the panel of accessibility experts.
To register your place at the event, visit the IIA Website and fill out the form.

There will be an opportunity for you to view a demonstration of the Browsealoud software. If you would like further information on Browsealoud in advance, or more details on the event, please email:
